Debunking Pregnancy Myths
Part of being pregnant always means receiving lots of wrong advice from well-meaning people. Let us debunk the most common pregnancy myths out there:
You Can’t Have Sex During Pregnancy
One of the biggest misconceptions about pregnancy is that having sex will hurt your baby. It is completely safe for soon-to-be mums to have sex unless your doctor has advised you not to.
Your sex drive might change during pregnancy, so keep that in mind. It can also be influenced by the fact that having sex might set off Braxton Hicks contractions, which can be very uncomfortable. Always make sure to check that your pregnant partner is not in pain during sex.
We suggest using protection at all times to keep your baby safe from STIs (sexually transmitted infections).

Your Face Shape Can Predict Your Baby’s Gender
This one is my personal favourite: a pregnancy myth states that what your face looks like can predict your baby’s gender. Apparently your face shape or the conditions of your skin can tell you your baby’s gender.
Another famous one says that having dry hands means that you’re having a baby boy. We think you should just moisturize your skin and wait for your OB/GYN to confirm your baby’s gender!
You Can’t Exercise
Contrary to popular belief, experts actually recommend keeping active throughout your pregnancy, for a healthier pregnancy and smoother labor.

You Must Eat for Two
Though you might feel more hungry and thirsty than usual, you don’t actually have to eat for two. There’s no need for you to double the proportions during pregnancy!
It might even be more difficult for you to eat bigger meals, as your expanding uterus will compress your stomach. Your little muffin is growing fast!

You Can’t Have Any Coffee
Good news! You actually can have a small amount of coffee: doctor’s advice to never exceed 200mg of caffeine a day.
Make sure to monitor your caffeine intake and what you put into your body, as coffee is not the only food rich in caffeine. Even so-called “decaffeinated coffee” still has small amounts of caffeine in it!
Nausea Only Happens in the Morning
This one is a myth that we all wish was true! But unfortunately, although it is more common in the morning – hence the name “morning sickness” – you can still feel nauseous throughout the day. Bummer!
